Like any proud parent celebrates when a child accomplishes a small or great feat, we are celebrating and hosting former Club member, Shannon James as part of our Career on Wheels series. When COVID-19 spread across our communities and wreaked havoc on our way of life and living, Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, like many other nonprofits across the nation, had to close its doors and quickly adapt to a new way of providing programs and services to our members via virtual programming.
One of our signature virtual programs is “Career on Wheels,” a weekly series streamed live via our Facebook page every Tuesday. Career on Wheels’ main goal is to expose, educate, and encourage our youth to strive for educational and career excellence by bringing notable and accomplished professionals from numerous sectors into their homes each week. Some of our special guests have included Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Dr. Yashika Edwards, Lt. General Leslie Smith, Inspector General for the United States Army, and many others.
On Thursday, May 21st, Mr. Shannon James, Sr., will join the ranks as one of our esteemed guests for the Career on Wheels series. James, a native of Albany Georgia, committed husband and father of three, attributes much of his foundation to the skills and knowledge he received while attending the Boys and Girls Clubs Albany. A former Youth of the Year, James credits the program for providing community resources including mentors, structure, and hope.
After a very successful career in banking, James is now the President and CEO of the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance. This 501(c)(6) Public/Private Partnership, led by a Board of 38 trusted advisors, is an organization whose commitment is to make the Aerotropolis Atlanta area a world-class destination for business, connectivity, and living. He also currently serves as Secretary for Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts and an Advisory Board Member with Clayton State University. Prior to his current role, James served as the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance Investor/Finance Committee Chairman, Chairman of the Board Of Directors, Secretary for Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts, and Chief Financial Officer for the South Fulton Chamber Of Commerce.
Please join us on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM on our Facebook page, where you will be able to hear from Mr. James and find our how he went from Club member to CEO and other keys to his success.
